Space and Dreams (55 Flash Fiction)

He sat behind the controls

the spaceship jostled as it met with some unexpected turbulence

he could feel the surge of  power

his ship was quickly ascending

leaving known terra for parts unknown

he was thrilled to make the trip

it was his first journey into space

the book fell from his hands

as he drifted into dreamland

Thank you for visiting Moondustwriter. One of the many exciting things I've had the honor of doing is writing and publishing in multiple genres (including education) in E. African for E. Africa. As a writer, it is a thrill to write for children (on all continents) who want to learn. I've been part of the blogging community for more than 13 years. Some old timers may remember the award winning (2011 Twitter Shorty ) blog community - One Stop Poetry. I was the co-producer of that fast growing blog community. I am a published writer, poet, artist and photographer. I have written, as well as edited, for periodicals, radio, blogs and fellow writers. There are many facets to this moon - my joy is in meeting you!

  1. This was so neat. The photo really had me thinking he was an astronaut! Neat twist, Leslie! I’m amazed by how much can be expressed in 55 words – awesome.

  2. fantastic to get so caught up in a book that we feel like real spaceship captains…
when we were kids, we used to build spaceships control panels in the sand and spend afternoons playing – feeling heavily responsible for cruising the universe and fighting for the good…smiles
    mine’s here

  3. Reminds me of a scene from the movie (albeit- its a few years since I have seen this movie, but your words made me relive it in my imagination– 2001: A Space Odyssey (often referred to simply as 2001) is a 1968 epic science fiction film directed by Stanley Kubrick.

Would love to have this experience in real time vs. virtual time. Nice write 55 er.

    Have a nice week end,

  4. I’ve never yet made it into space and I’ve been blessed to travel the world over – but now that the SF budget cuts elminated my forensic nursing job 18 months ago after 21 years of employment, books are going to have to help me journey to many places now. I wouldn’t have survived without the internet!!

    Delightful 55!

  5. Hi Moondustwriter!
This reminds me of the documentary “In the Shadow of the Moon” (2007). It blew my mind, just like your 55 Flash Fiction.

I appreciate you and love your internet presence.
I love the end of your flash. Mmmm!
Keep up the great work — I’m loving your internet presence.

  6. Reading….the final frontier. 🙂

I kinda feel sad for kids today who don’t know the thrill of watching those first NASA astronauts launch into space….I always appreciated Apollo 11 being the first to walk on the moon because I was …..11. I wonder if they even have the imagination to crawl into a book and not know when to come out.

    Well done!
