Waiting for You #poem (One shot Wednesday)

I sat looking

Waiting

Hoping

for One last glimpse

of us

***

There we were on our bench

the picture so clear

sweet summer fragrance

eyes only for each other

***

You held me tight

beneath the maple trees

emanating warmth

even in the fall breeze

***

Words they heard

in our lover’s embrace

carefully conveyed into the night

as though they had done this before

***

You were only a breath away

whispered never “let you go”

gave me hope for tomorrow

yet  I am here all alone

***

That love so strong

had one weak link

more than tears rusted through

our loving embrace

***

So I make a vigil

before our bench

I cast my love

into the frosty night

***

Into barren arms of naked maples

and cold winter air

“please hold my dreams tight”

they hear me whisper

****

I listen for hopes of you

things not spoken my dear

perhaps no one will hear

but maybe they will get

through to you

This poem is in honor of the men and women whose love was separated forever by disaster the day that Pearl Harbor was attacked December 7, 1941.

Thank you for visiting Moondustwriter. One of the many exciting things I've had the honor of doing is writing and publishing in multiple genres (including education) in E. African for E. Africa. As a writer, it is a thrill to write for children (on all continents) who want to learn. I've been part of the blogging community for more than 13 years. Some old timers may remember the award winning (2011 Twitter Shorty ) blog community - One Stop Poetry. I was the co-producer of that fast growing blog community. I am a published writer, poet, artist and photographer. I have written, as well as edited, for periodicals, radio, blogs and fellow writers. There are many facets to this moon - my joy is in meeting you!

  1. I loved this. It was so cold by that bench. I could feel all of this and it moved nicely. I can see that love being cast out and this is a interesting picture: “barren arms of naked maples.”

  2. Wow! And I thought I wrote sad stuff! This is powerful in that you so beautifully blend nature (summer fragrance, fall breeze and maple trees) in with the human element and peel back the flesh to reveal all emotions.

I could see an old man walking to the bench one day, after many years, and dropping roses on the snow-covered bench—only to realize he was a day too late…

    1. While you’re looking back in the rear-view mirorr, you’re also looking up at the basement ceiling (or the living room floor) in this blog. Looking back helps one to look up and adjust one’s perspective. There must be a poem that could connect the two Eagerly anticipating your long poem,Mom
