If tonight … (#oneshotwednesday)

If tonight…

was to be my last breath

what would that last breath do?

I would pull down the stars

hand them over to you

***

If tonight…

was to be my last breath

I would with my lips

blow our names in the dust

held together with a kiss

***

If tonight…

was to be my last breath

let me see

I would cast all my love

to the outer banks of the sea

***

If tonight…

was to be my last breath

I would pull you nose to nose

whisper “hold me tight

until my eyes for the last time close”

It another day for One Shot Wednesday. Join us as we share and read the remarkable work of fellow poets.

Thank you for visiting Moondustwriter. One of the many exciting things I've had the honor of doing is writing with an E. African team that is developing elementary curriculum for African children. As a writer, it is a thrill to help children (on all continents) who want to learn. I've been part of the blogging community for more than 10 years. Some old timers may remember the award winning (2011 Twitter Shorty ) blog community - One Stop Poetry. I was the co-producer of that fast growing blog community. I am a published writer, poet, artist and photographer. I have written, as well as edited, for periodicals, radio, blogs and fellow writers. There are many facets to this moon - thanks for stopping by.

  1. Leslie,
Beautiful poem….in its simplicity and imagery…
    love these lines:

    “If tonight…
was to be my last breath
    let me see
I would cast all my love
to the outer banks of the sea”

works perfectly with the stunning photo…puts me there at the outer banks of the sea.

    great one shot

  2. There is a lose feel to the pacing here, I like that.

Strange as it may sound I like the reflective line “Let me see” I think those three words hold up the entire piece and if read one way there is a single narrative voice.

But if read with a different thought, say two people, younger less cynical than myself perhaps, sitting on those rocks looking out over a moon lit sea wooing one another.

  4. Wow!!! Feel could feel this sense behind the “breath” that had me holding mine. This is beautiful in what it wishes to say and do before that “last breath” is taken….undying devotion….love your writing anyway Leslie but the feeling in this is phenomenal! I think its got to be one of my favorites!!! 🙂 ~April

  7. Wow… having chills down the spine. Incredible depth, incredible understanding of truly difficult moments, yet the yearning that must be there awaiting, sprinkled with fear and loss.
