Can’t protect you
against the storm
in it’s rage
but I can hold your heart
*
I can’t shield you
from the flaming
suns rays
but I can hold your heart
*
Can’t keep your boat
Safe from harm
So it won’t capsize
But I can hold your heart
*
I can’t keep
The ugliness of life away
Nor protect your eyes
But I can hold your heart
*
As the storms rage
I will hold
Your Heart
next to
mine
*
Into another age
your heart
is still
next
to
mine

Thank you for visiting Moondustwriter. One of the many exciting things I've had the honor of doing is writing and publishing in multiple genres (including education) in E. African for E. Africa. As a writer, it is a thrill to write for children (on all continents) who want to learn.
I've been part of the blogging community for more than 13 years. Some old timers may remember the award winning (2011 Twitter Shorty ) blog community - One Stop Poetry. I was the co-producer of that fast growing blog community.
I am a published writer, poet, artist and photographer. I have written, as well as edited, for periodicals, radio, blogs and fellow writers.
There are many facets to this moon - my joy is in meeting you!

You captured the parents feeling perfectly about leting their kids go out into the world. We can’t protect them any more. All we can do is hold their hearts. Love the poem, Leslie.

We keep trying to hold them close though dont we? Even if they are going to play in the sand at 5 we want to protect them.

Tenderly beautiful, Leslie, working with the paradox of being able to hold the heart but nothing else. Lyrical with the truth. xxxj

I keep letting my go… all in their 20’s now. Don’t think it’ll happen until I’m gone. Nicely expressed…

I love that your poem could apply to any relationship, Leslie, where you have someone giving their unconditional love and support. What more could anyone ask for? Providing a safe harbor is a wonderful gift.

Dearest Moon Beam Magical Oe. This speaks to me as a mother who sees her baby sailing away to those raging seas. All I can do is hold her heart. But luckily hold her body in lots of hugs too and tell her many “I love yous.”
There once was a lady named Moon
who was fairer than evenings in June
she sailed to my blog
in a poetry fog
sweeter than a lush Tin Pan tune.
And that was just off the tip of my fingers this minute! 🙂 But all truer than true.
