In Bondage #poetry #oneshotwednesday

I cannot use

words to express

no rhyme no reason

so sad

I confess

**

For I have sworn

duly so

to not reveal my heart

but this you

know

***

Were I able

I’d sing a song

dance in the moonlight

all night

long

***

In our eyes

there’d be no trace

in sorrow

or sadness

there is no place

***

Gladness and laughter

would fill each line

spilling in verse

no sense

of time

*

But I am speechless

yes it is so

for I am bound

from romance

sad –  I know

Michelangelo is my favorite sculptor. This piece (one of the captive series)  has so much feeling.

    1. it really is self imposed – I was getting in a writing rut and my mentor assures me my best work is anything but romantic. so this is breaking the rules just a tad – dont tell him ok?

  1. Hey, Babe! There IS a man waiting for you, but neither he nor you realize who that is…might be someone you already know, or not–live with, or not! Imagine that he is thinking those same thoughts as you wrote. (sigh!)

Then relax, live life well, and God will do what you cannot do for yourself.

I know–I know…you did NOT ask for advice, but since I have troubles LIVING advice–my only solace is to dish it out LOLOL!

    Love and PEACE, my friend,

    Steve

    1. It’s funny cuz I’ve been angsting about not being able to write romantic poetry for a month ( yes a pitiful state) and I have this hero in stone or victim…

  2. I’m a Rodin girl myself, but I love both this sculpture and your heartfelt words. And besides, who better to dance in the moonlight than our favorite moondustwriter?

  3. it’s amazing what sculptors like michelangelo were able to create from a piece of stone. we have a lion’s monument in lucerne, hewn out of a rock and it was even mentioned my marco polo – and each time i visit i stand in awe and it makes me wanna write – like it happened to you with this piece of michelangelo…beautiful

  4. Beautiful poem Leslie! I especially liked the sculpture as the poem was reflective of it. I enjoyed the rhythm that pulsed through the poem. It was a very pleasant piece to read. Thank you for sharing!

  5. They say a sculptor takes stone and cuts away everything that doesn’t look like his subject. I think a poet like you does the somewhat the same, Leslie. You’ve precisely cut away all the words that wouldn’t express your feelings so directly, so beautifully, so perfectly right in their emotion and message. Wonderful.

    1. Joe I think this is the kindest comment anyone has made about my poetry. I’ve never sculpted from stone but I have sculpted with clay so it is a building process not a cutting away. Smiles my friend

  6. “bound from romance”…this is indeed sad.

Smiling…As the self-proclaimed “king of romance”, I can’t imagine living any other way.

I hope you have a change of heart soon, Leslie.

  7. I can completely relate to the feeling of being unable to express feelings, while at the same time having them churn within. Dig how easygoing the poem feels, even though the speaker is a prisoner in their own head. Excellent! 😀

    1. That’s the beauty of it you CAN! You can read as many of the grnees as you like, if I read the information correctly. Oh, and I saw the ABNA information and I toyed with it, but I’m not sure romance would fare as well against thrillers and lit fic. Hard to say, since they’re all so different. I’m surprised they don’t have it broken down more, at least, initially.

  8. Its odd, but each time I read something from you, it tells me a different story. I often read something/anything more than once and its because, in the blink of an eye, the words speak of what I missed first time around.
    Truly delightful piece.

  9. I think you did a nice job capturing the essence of the art, not only in words but your choice of form was an exceptional touch, especially the subtlety of the inconsistent asterisks between stanzas. Well done.

  10. really love this sculpture..your words fit it fine…I also love how you ended it, for I still had the rhyme on my tongue when I read Michelangelo which kept the flow going ~

  11. Sad n yet bound with romance.. the image is complementing!
At times it’s better to put the smiling face forward then to share the tears.. they are left to be dried up on their own!

Maybe we keep smiling till smile rests on our mouth and declares it its home.. 🙂
    Hugs xoxox
