I love you because your rays fill with delight
what I radiate in the eve is a golden smile glow
the stars twinkle and blush nightly because they know
I respect you becasue you rise high in the sky
my shape in the night a reflection you see
is more of yourself and so much less of me
Sometimes as I rise I ask the question “why”
I’m merely a mirror of your glorious rays
I cast a few shadows you lighten each and every day
We look at each other across celestial sea
we put in the sky for the world at the start
I a dusty old orb and yours a radiant heart

I love this poem! Poor old moon, but at least she’s a happy old orb! I have the feminist answer to this poem here: http://susanspoetry.blogspot.com/2012/11/moon-speaks.html

Ha indeed the moon is a fanciful (old and young) creature – but I must confess she has the hots for the sun 🙂

How lucky poets are to have both sun and moon to inspire them. We give them feelings echoing our thoughts while others stare at the ground. Beautiful!
