I tried to draw a wave today
but the eraser dust got in the way
tidal motion’s graceful ease
children’s toes the waters tease
your salty spray my soul it bathes
and you energized by sun’s warm rays
the deepness holds our secret close
nighttime a dance that no one knows
treasures held beneath the mist
many sailors call you their one “mistress”
I won’t share what I drew today
the eraser dust got in the way
“Like as the waves make towards the pebbled shore,
So do our minutes hasten to their end”
…Shakespeare

Waves is the prompt at Poet’s United Midweek Motif hosted for the first time by the treasured poet Sumana Roy. Do waves speak to you?

This is absolutely stunning..! ❤
These lines still daze me:
the deepness holds our secret close
nighttime a dance that no one knows
treasures held beneath the mist
many sailors call you their one “mistress”
Words aren't enough to depict how beautiful this is ❤

That eraser dust! Keeping beneath the mist the seduction of a soul that will now return again and again to the sea. I love how you use the inexpressible to express!

You’ve captured how ‘uncapturable’ those waves are!

This poem speaks to me, as do the waves……forever singing me their siren song of the sea.

I do empathize with that eraser dust. Some things, such as waves, are hard to capture….even though we try hard, we can never succeed in showing its depth as it is. Your poem drives that point home clearly.

I like the rhyme which depicts the rhythm of the sea. Using the image of drawing and the erase is inspired. Capturing the essence is only really possible in haiku ( I think !) Really lovely poem.!

Beautifully complete in its thinking and form…what is not said (or rubbed out) is often the truth..sometimes that is best kept to ourselves

I went to the beach over spring break. Returning to the waves once more. They energize me. The drawing of the wave and hte eraser dust getting in the way made me smile. I enjoy just watching those at play at the beach. Particularly the children.

A trip to the beach is always a good idea. Even when I lived on the coast, I looked forward to my daily trips to tease the waves.
