The Year Dims to Sight #poetry #newyear

moving time

“I sit beside the fire and think

of all that I have seen

of meadow-flowers and butterflies

in summers that have been”  Bilbo

~JRR Tolkien Lord of the Rings~

****

I sit and ponder,  last log burns

lingering o’er fading light

few pages now left to turn

behind the year dimming to sight

I sit beside the fire and think

cherry blossoms once smiled at me

her soft cheeks rosy and pink

dawn’s fragrant dance lively and free

I sit old ink pen in hand

memory  welcomes the  strong crashing sea

frothy tides pull  from land

children’s  echo,  their peels of glee

I see Nature’s stores overflowing

golden hues blustery fingers doth turn

prepare for the chill and the blowing

brown leaves enjoy one last burn

I sit and watch twinkling tree lights

yearly celebration begun

family drawn warm and tight

the year’s work wrapped and done

I sit and ponder as last log burns

lingering o’er  fading light

the last pages have been turned

the year dims forever  to my sight
