Giraffe #Uganda #atozchallenge #safari

Gracefully crossing the road

*tower follows in succession

speckled beasts silent strode

mother lingers behind

eyeing the line of crossing

her calf close to her side

long neck leaves raking

food plentiful so high

pictures can’t stop taking

beauty silent passing by

*group of giraffes is called a tower

I appreciate the parks that allow wild animals to live in their natural habitat with less risk of poaching. A safari should be on  everyone’s  bucket list.

Please be sure to enjoy the month of fantastic blogs on the A to Z challenge.

Thank you for visiting Moondustwriter. One of the many exciting things I've had the honor of doing is writing with an E. African team that is developing elementary curriculum for African children. As a writer, it is a thrill to help children (on all continents) who want to learn. I've been part of the blogging community for more than 10 years. Some old timers may remember the award winning (2011 Twitter Shorty ) blog community - One Stop Poetry. I was the co-producer of that fast growing blog community. I am a published writer, poet, artist and photographer. I have written, as well as edited, for periodicals, radio, blogs and fellow writers. There are many facets to this moon - thanks for stopping by.

  1. I did not know a group of giraffes was a tower! Interesting!
    Love the second picture.
I agree, it’s nice for there to be areas where animals are safer from poaching.

  2. Visiting from A to Z. I don’t know how you feel about animals in captivity, but an “Animal Adventure Park” in upstate New York (Northeast United States) has a pregnant giraffe. They put a webcam in her quarters in February, and April the Giraffe has gone viral. The park is raising funds for giraffe conservation and hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world have watched this webcam. Its been an amazing experience, being introduced to these magnificent creatures. I hope that, one day, I can see them in the wild.

  3. Hi Leslie – love giraffes – they are so wonderful to see in their natural surroundings and I’ve been so lucky to have done that … April the giraffe has gone viral – I was told about her by Lenny who comments on my blog -he just loves animals …

There was a wonderful nature park mostly full of giraffe fairly near Johannesburg – that was the most glorious day out … we could wander around in it – no predators … and just see the variety of giraffe there … it was spectacular …

So thank you for this great poem with the two photos – lovely … cheers Hilary

  4. Great photographs again, and giraffes are so beautiful. A safari would be amazing. The closest I have come is the African Lion Safari in Ontario, and the safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Although fun, not quite the real thing. Wonderful post.

  5. Such elegance in these amazing creatures. Poetry.
Thanks for stopping in at The Write Game. I do miss not being in the AtoZ this year, but as I explained in an earlier post, my arm and hand went wonky and the doctor said something like, “You are insane to use those phalanges until you’re better.” I’m kind of following his directions.
