small seed in the spring

it is watered and nurtured

to allow it to grow

you break through the soil

broad leaf and thick stalk

face turns skyward

you radiate and glow

stand tall above the rest

because you refused to be told to stop

reached toward the warmth

never listening to defeat

you are a child of the sun
