Ἄγνωστος Θεός”
agnostos theos
to the God we do not know
***
When you dont know what to call Him
he knows where you are
when you cannot form the question
his answer is not far
when you run ever lonely
outstretched are his arms
aged you’re forgotten
he remembers who you are
***
he calls our name
no season hides his love
close as a whisper
In Acts 17, the apostle Paul addresses a council on Mars Hill (the Aereopagus in Greece).
Greece has so many Gods. Paul speaks about an altar built to Agnostos Theos. This altar was built after a Cretan philosopher Epimenides asked the people to build an altar and make sacrifices to this Unknown God. The hope wad that this unknown God would be merciful and save them from certain destruction ( from a plague in the 6th Century B.C.)
“The unknown God has a name” Paul informs the Greeks – “His name is Yahweh.”
Paul addresses the destruction that man could not flee from in the 6th century B.C. Neither can mankind flee the the things that plague us in the 21st century.
“Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, 31 because He has fixed a day in which He will judge [c]the world in righteousness [d]through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men [e]by raising Him from the dead.”
Acts 17:30-31
Please for those of you who have no name to give to God and no hope in Him place your hope in the one and only one who can save you. Repentance is not a list of things you have to do it is calling on the name of Jesus and asking for Him and Him alone to forgive you.
There is only one cure for sin (which will end in death). That cure is Jesus.
