Traffic #children #atozchallenge #Uganda

From the Iron Donkey I watch

a normal afternoon in Gulu

two boys

four eyes

 traffic

people, animals, motorcycles

*iron donkeys, cars and trucks

The Iron Donkey is a guest house where we stay in Gulu. The iron donkey is also what Westerners consider a bicycle.

Playing at Pawell #atozchallenge #children #uganda

 puppets tell stories

 balls in the sky

we run, jump and play

color and listen

all part of our day

we learn from our teachers

enjoy a sweet

sing a new song

we’re children of Pawell

come join along

I can’t express what a joy these children are to teach and play with. I hope you can tell from the pictures that we love the Acholi.

Kindness #children #atozchallenge

mama’s busy with the farm

rain blocked the way

we jump life’s puddles

we  cross them together

today on my back

tomorrow holding hands

The Acholi are hard working and determined people. The women will work the farm during the day, clean up , then carry their produce to market each evening. The young girls sweetly care for their siblings even those still in diapers. What determination we see in those so young. So proud of the kindness of children.

Are you doing the A to Z challenge? Are you determined to finish strong?

We are near to the halfway mark – bravo.

Simultaneity is today’s Napowrimo topic

The Definition of Simultaneity is the relation between two events assumed to be happening at the same time in a frame of reference. According to Einstein’s theory of relativity, simultaneity is not an absolute relation between events; what is simultaneous in one frame of reference will not necessarily be simultaneous in another.

The silver ringed the moon
uniform, shiny squares line my brain
“it’s going to rain tomorrow”
the empty line was endless
what an unusual glow on my ring finger
monochrome seems to work
“my mind never makes sense anymore”
stars won’t get in tonight’s way
It’s too dark in my mind
all because of the silver ringed moon

Poetry doesn’t always make sense but sometimes it helps clarify the questions in your mind.
This poem is written in honor to the Alzheimer’s patients whom I dearly love and respect.

Hello #children #atozchallenge

so eager to meet us

always a big smile

a treat would be nice

can you stay for awhile

children so welcome

a great big hello

one word I can say

in their languages I know

In the market, in a small way station, at the petrol station we are always greeted with such kindness by the Ugandan people. The children always have a big smile for us.

Today is week two of great blogging and poetry. Say “Hello” to someone you haven’t read before!!!

Little Girls #children #atozchallenge

chased by waves

blowing up a balloon

hide- n -seek with daddy

chasing the moon

lung for the ball

reach for the sky

wonder on her face

gleam in her eye

little girl in red

We may never figure out exactly what a child is thinking but isn’t it fun watching them?

It’s one week today with A to Z and Napowrimo and I am meeting (as always) some talented and kind bloggers/ poets. Enjoy a month of great writing.

Fun #children #atozchallenge

a ruler mark was a better way

children should not have fun

or play

serious the subject

in every day

we must light- hearted

laugh today

follow the leader

the silly way

you don’t want to know

that I taught a game

I have the upmost respect for teachers with all sorts of degrees. The job is an important one. A retired elementary teacher, I  respect and adore, states emphatically that her most important subject was love and kindness; something she taught by example to her appreciative students. I’ll add fun to that list.  We have fun in our classes – lot’s of it!!!

Sending love to my friends in Pawell and Lacor. You are the best teachers in the world and have taught me to have the best kind of fun.

Dance #children #atozchallenge

feet joyfully tap

vocal chords follow

babies wiggle their feet

boys jump in the air

hard not to move to the beat

we’re in church

dancing

place in my heart

sun rises with daily greeting

smiling boy

The prompt at the wordpress photo challenge is Smile. Our friend’s boy Danny is a constant joy. We always want to bring him home with us when we leave Uganda.
