Listen in Sorrow #birds #poetry #loss

pencil bird

happy you tend to the garden

waking me daily with song

bringing cheer never sorrow

I find myself singing along

*

more work is there in the morrow

gather and fashion a nest

complaints never are filed

rarely do you stop for a rest

*

little one out in the wet storm

no jacket to fend off the rain

grateful for your reminder

sun always follows the pain

*

I take my pen sadly to paper

to write about someone I love

gone toward braodened horizons

taken gently to heaven above

*

spring raindrops

birds joyful refrain

tears fall freely

Today at Poet’s United the prompt is Birds.

This haibun is lovingly written for my father-in-law Robert who left us today.

They Make it Look Easy #nature #snow

winter path

I marvel at winter’s bird

dance on the snow for me absurd

weightless they walk  in worst blizzard

I marvel at winter’s bird

light like a feather or whispered word

I marvel at winter’s bird

my snow dance more cold than absurd

The bird’s out in the worst of today’s storm inspired me to shovel a path. “Less work for tomorrow.”

Stay warm and safe you who share something in common with “Winter’s Bird.”

Dawn Greeter #poetry #sundaydevotion #fall

“time to greet the day”

a quiet voice whispers

Dawn has barely broken

life is stirring

before my boots crunch

leaves are rustling

the trees wave goodbye to summer

silhouetted by warm rays

*

small creatures forage

growing fat and furry

year end’s harvest awaits

for the final gleaning

birds feeling winter’s nudge migrate

moving families south

and I smile

none lugging boxes of storage

*

I never see worry stashed in burrows

or tiny angry fists

nature moves forward

as always it persists

 we least patient in creation

gain an unhealthy weight

yet worry gives us nothing

stress carried in furrows

around the bend

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

“Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!  Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ?  Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

Luke 12:24-26

I’m sharing this today with Poets United where there is a pantry rich with poetry and GodInterest where words are placed to lighten the load.

 whether on the ground

or in the air

we grasp at flight

with color and flair

*

we move our wings

in play we dare

we fly our kites

our laughter shared

*

we live and love

nothing spared

 we touch the sky

with not a care

This week’s WordPress photo challenge is “On The Move.”

It’s hard not to think of children when I write about movement. What do you think of???

nature’s Inspiration #haiku #nature #photography

deer

This haiku inspired by Kikusha-Ni, (this means ‘Hut of the Chrysanthemums’) and her haiku about the Tea Bowl:

tenmoku ni koharu no kumo no ugoki kana

in the teabowl
this motion of the clouds
of ‘Little Spring’

***

tea bowl of my world

watery dance with nature

shaking water drops

Today’s prompt at Carpe Diem is the Tea Bowl inspired by Kikusha-Ni

shadows

Always at cross angles

like waves against me crash

wind whipped standard

*

your eyes flash

multiple thoughts converging

life never to be the same

*

Blocking my way

shadowing my step

muddying my resolution

*

your eyes flash

multiple thoughts converging

my life never to be the same

*

Sandpaper like friction

seabirds fight for their find

iron gate clanging shut

*

your eyes flash

multiple thoughts converging

Our lives never to be the same

*

I offer you my hand

 simple gesture of love

please take it – don’t run

…or we will never be the same

Word Count: 100

Poets United prompt for Verse First is Poetry that Heals.

Can abrasive, passionate words help a heart heal or do they tend to rip off the scab?

Merciless Game #poetry #magpietales #birds

Yesterday…

She buried her head in the sand

Today…

He cowered in his nest

~Tomorrow~

They swoop down on innocence

Unhooded hawk

do not feign ignorance

you hold lifelessness in your claw

predatory gaze

at your next victim

making life

a merciless game

of your gain

Our Beach #oneshotwednesday

Early dawn awakens

calling us to her

waves recede their motion

revealing white treasure

*

unveiled  each saucy look

Wide eyed as a child

taking in the picture

things so tame yet wild

*

birds stilt-like skinny legs

scurry dodge the flow

She knows us and smiles

little ones on the go

**

lovers in their own world

place where it all starts

hoping never for an end

passion gives a spark

**

wondrous moments in the fog

fingers always clasped

bare foot momentary prints

they  never seem to last

**

Seashells never found before

driftwood sadly bare

relics of those broken hearts

dreams , never shared

***

we take a walk along our beach

and reach toward the sand

quickly reaches back at us

her foam covered hand

***

I grew up and lived at or close to the beach. The world there is free, clean and wild. It always beckons some of us back for more.

Please join us for a walk with others in the world of poetry at One Shot Wednesday

Somber

What will I do with this day?

Oh so full of  grey

Is there any life around?

listen – is there sound?

***

Is that fragrance spring?

a twitter with a ring

blossom peaking out her head

or is all dead?

***

a mere ray of light

birds taking flight

will life  re-bound?

is that green on the ground?

***

So easily does the gloom

over my life loom

no sense in this day

seems meaningless and grey

***

When all seems as loss

I measure the cost

and realize

I still have breath for this day
