The King!

What would it be like to have Jesus walk on my cloak, look in my eyes and smile? This Jesus came as a servant to the poor, the sick, the broken, the unaccepted. The leaders could not understand a king like this. They despised this “rule-breaker” who would not conform to the law they had defiled.

Jesus is not of this world. He rules with love and reaches his scepter of forgiveness to all. Grasp for that freedom and you will be washed clean from the mud of this world.

“He was despised and rejected be men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised and we esteemed him not.”

                                                                    ~Isaiah 53:3

“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

                                                                   ~John 1:29

Today is Palm Sunday. This is the day when Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey. He was celebrated and loved. Such a difference one week makes in the lives of us all.

Thank you to Wall paper gallery for the free image of the cross it merged perfectly with my shot of the cherry blossoms to make a lovely image.

Bright are the Bows Brighter the Memories #thepast #poetry #holidays

“Life’s memories are like packages with bright bows” ~ L. Moon

gifts

I look at you from north, south, east, and west

like a cat I watch you and wait

sitting on the edge of expectation

don’t pretend that you are inert

you who shine with brilliant colors

holding poignant the past

underneath your cheerful bow

it is all I can do to be patient

“don’t shake the box”

I hear a cherished voice

one I thought I would never lose

every gift you wrapped

was filled with thought

down to a holly sprig or jolly elf

perched on top of the bow

what is inside this time?

recollections do play tricks

and you have to accept the mix

of jovial, spicy and sad

I’d rather not hear the crunch of paper

like the dead leaves of winter

I’d rather look at my reflection

of a much younger me

in precious grey old eyes

and remember the

Christmas Memory

Merry Christmas to each of you. May the songs that you hear and the scents that permeate your world bring you memories to keep you warm!!!

The Harvest Celebration #haiku #tanrenga #poetry

Here is our first Tan Renga starting haiku written by Jessica of Like an Apple; Jessica wrote this haiku in response on our kigo ‘scarecrow’ (Kakashi).

Stanza 1 (5-7-5) ~ Jessica
wind jostles the scarecrow
near the heavy-hung cornstalks
the summer is spent

Stanza 2 (7-7) ~ me

lonely in the cold of day

bonfires to warm the dance tonight

Even scarecrows need to have some harvest celebration!

Celebrate with us at Carpe Diem as we spend the month writing Tan Renga.  Tan Renga is a short-linked poem (written by two poets) which has two stanzas. The first stanza has 5-7-5 syllables and the second stanza has 7-7 syllables. The second stanza is a response to the first and has to have a ‘kind of link’ with the first stanza, I call that link an echo of the first stanza. Try your hand at Tan Renga.

We lived in an agricultural area for years.

How fun to celebrate the end of harvest by a bonfire of cornstalks and walnut limbs while the kids went on a moonlight ride.

I Will Tango Tonight #New Year #2012 #flashfiction

A ball will fall

Happy- my lips will linger on

one who offers me

a dance

caring little for what I wear

what matters

the heat on our breath

 New is our tango

lower me to the ground

smell my eau de chaud

I  taste your latte

This Year

come in alone

but leave…

and as we see another year out an applause of thanks is given to Mr Know it All who manages to host a fantastic Flash Fiction every Friday and has done so for more than 4 years. Happy 2012 to All!!!

The Senses of Christmas #flashfiction #Christmas

Can you smell it, feel it, hear  it?

Of course I can

It’s the senses of Christmas

Gingerbread and shortbread in the oven

Pine from the tree

Spices of  hot cider congealing

Seasoned wood on the fire

Bing Crosby singing with his smooth as scotch voice

one more thing

Our Family gathered enjoying being together

Wishing all of you a joyous Christmas. A time to celebrate time with friends and family. A special thanks to G-Man who looks upon all his followers as good friends.

Why the 4th??? #ForthofJuly

I never tire of unraveling the stars and strips on a day like today. I am reminded that I can sleep in my bed safely because I have people round the clock protecting me.  I think of  the diversity of culture: while my family will barbeques chicken another family may be making tamales, and another okra or ribs. I can enjoy my culture within a culture and welcome the beliefs and mores of my neighbor. I smile because we are celebrating becoming a country on this day…

“… Hot Dogs get your hot dogs”

Yes today is a day to celebrate freedom and like so many other american past times baseball is where I love to enjoy family time, food and the fourth of July. My team is the world champions for 2010 The San Francisco Giants.

“Play Ball!!!”

“… Sizzle, Crack, pop, whiz, B A N G”

“Honey be sure to hold those sparklers away from your body.

Dear that bottle rocket is going to… Yes that’s right. Hit the neighbor’s car.”

Sprays of blues, reds, silver green mingle to become breathtaking noise and light.

These were the times that I  enjoyed as my children covered their ears

and danced with delight.

“… Attention”

I am reminded when I heard the order that I had a duty.

It was an honor to serve my country,

my people with the hope of peace.

I waved at my fellow aviators as they flew by me going mach speeds

I am proud to be free to celebrate on a day

like the 4th of July.

I am reminded that there is a price for peace

-sometimes a rather high one

I pray that there will be no more need for men and women to die

in war.

I wish each of you a Happy Forth of July for the many reasons –

Family, food, celebration, freedom.

Christmas from Around the World #Christmas

Though Ukraine is not my ancestral home, I love the dear people there. I have lived and worked with some wonderful people. The last time I left Ukraine, I heard a piece of my heart fall into the cobblestone as I was saying farewell.

The Ukrainians are a religious people many are Orthodox so it’s no surprise that much of the Christmas celebration centers around their beliefs. One thing that stands out is that Ukraine celebrates Christmas on the 7th of January. Christmas Eve is a central part of the celebration. At the first sighting of the evening star ( goes back to the story of the Wise Men following the Star of David to Bethlehem), the family engages in a meal ( the Holy Supper) made from 12 meatless dishes. The children often go into the village singing Christmas carols (hoping for a treat).  All of the community descend on  church for a late night service. Christmas day is spent visiting friends. Decorations have changed over the years but the Vertep known as a nativity scene is a major decoration. Decorations come out on Christmas eve as do the gifts.

The Christmas celebration is heavily centered in time spent with friends and family.

I wish my dear friends in the Ukraine a most wonderful Christmas

The picture of the wintry church dome was sent to me by one of my friends who lives in Kiev.

Please join us at One Stop Poetry as we are sharing Christmas from Around the World on Monday and Tuesday.
