No One Can Keep a Secret #haiku #photography

Today our third episode of  ”Full Circle”, a special feature at our Carpe Diem Haiku Kai Special  weblog,  and the goal is to write haiku with the twelve (12) words I will give. It’s a kind of word-whirl and you have to use the words given in the clock-wise direction. So every word has to come in the line of it’s place on the clock e.g. mirror you have to use for line one (1) and leaves for line two (2) and so on.

The goal is to write haiku using the 12 words as given in the clock wise way.

Here are the 12 (twelve) words for this new episode:

  1. mirror
  2. leaves
  3. rain
  4. butterfly
  5. chrysanthemum
  6. breeze
  7. stars
  8. clouds
  9. ocean
  10. daisies
  11. cow shed
  12. secret

it’s  in the mirror

fluttering leaves carry it past

spilt in the rain

*

on butterfly wings

chrysanthemum join whispers

carried on the breeze

*

stars seem to hear

what the clouds cannot  hold

caught on ocean’s spray

*

sunny faced daisies

gossip in the cow shed

no one holds a secret

***

What tale can you weave with these 12 words???

stairs up

I wait here

dangling on the edge

of this forever night

afraid to take a breath

less

you breathe your last

back and forth

 I will the hands back

to when you were a child

with a song

always on your lips

look around

at anything but the present

circumstances

hold a butterfly

rather than

 what can’t be changed

and your life

is it worth dangling

from a chain

no longer winding the clock

the beat of your heart

frozen on your lips

air that I’m afraid

to breathe

When Time Stopped #microfiction #amwriting

I remember it like it was yesterday – the clock stopped at quarter til the hour.

I was on an outbound train going where I couldn’t remember

That was the crazy part – no one remembered what they were supposed to do next.

Looking back I’m not sure if we stopped when time stopped or if  a frozen state ensued from not knowing what to do when time stood still.

Some people stood as if in denial.

I think they were willing time to do something different.

Others, I am sure, were afraid to move as if the clock would crack and the “sameness” of life with it.

My life course changed profoundly that night.

I was bound for University. You know settle into a routine, surrounded by fellow students and books, go the requisite number of parties and games.

Each student predictably going the same general direction that was pre-ordained for us by our professors.

For me, at the moment when time stood still, something clicked like the second hand of life rebelled.

I grabbed up my things and started walking. There were a few others who independently decided to do the same thing.

We walked into the night and haven’t stopped. A few people with the same mindset have joined us along the way.

It’s curious, even after years, we notice in every town we come to there is a group of people staring at a clock with the large hand on the 9.

The Clock Stopped Ticking #shortstory #trust30

                                                                                                   We are afraid of truth,

afraid of fortune,

afraid of death,

and afraid of each other.

Our age yields no great

and perfect persons.

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Yes I understand” I said as I wiped a tear from my eyes. It was the worst thing I had imagined. Fast paced cancer that would consume my body in…

“What do I do first?” I scream at the unsympathetic walls. No response.

I sit down and do the only thing I know how to do write. My husband first; this letter is surprisingly easy for he can read between every line. He has read this scenario and has heard my fears. That’s done.

Next – My eldest he is all that is good about me. He is talented and will take his art further for he is brave. His mind goes beyond the galaxies and probes the mind. “What do I say to him? This is for you,” as I tuck the book of stories that were written for him and about him.  My book will never a best seller but he will be. “I love you my dearest son goodbye for now.”

“How can I say goodbye to you? You are my best friend. With you I have travelled the globe. We should have been twins not mother and daughter. Here are the tickets and the airmiles I saved for all our future trips. Go – I will be there.”

“Little one: of all of them you need me the most. You have since you were born. You must let go now. Please be strong for both of us. I am  in every note you play. Every duet you sing hear my voice combined with yours – forever.”

“Goodbye to you. I love you more than life itself. I breathe my last breath with a kiss of love and thanks to you with love from my soul.”

and with that last drop of ink …

Here is the prompt:

You just discovered you have fifteen minutes to live.

1. Set a timer for fifteen minutes.
2. Write the story that has to be written.

Please Don’t Forget Me I’m in Haiti

Still Missing

Right now in Haiti there is a “round the clock” effort to find those still alive and trapped in the rubble. The hours are ticking away. Searchers know that time is not their friend. Family members are frantically posting pictures and names of those still missing.

My sister, her husband and their two young kids… Please oh please help us find them so my mom and I can actually sleep at night,” just one of  an overwhelming list of missing posted on an on-line message board.  (CNN)

It is a seemingly hopeless business. For every victory, there is a setback. With every recovery, there are many still missing. Those still hidden under the rubble are screaming out in their spirits – Dont Forget Me! I’m Here!

Is Hope Missing?

No (break). No chance. We will have to deal with new needs, new sufferings, new situation of hunger, new despair, new devastation.”  states Rev. Duken Augustin in an e-mail.    (Huffington Post: Nicholas Sabloff)

The news is sobering. Where does one look  for a piece of hope?

The hope is in the faithful rescue workers. Please don’t give up! Reach in, grab, search. Hurry the clock is ticking!

Thank You to all those who are searching and who are not giving up on those who would otherwise be forgotten. Take heart.
