Freedom Cancelled #poetry #alzheimers

rose bud bloom

decided on its own colour

catching random raindrops

she danced each spring

a calla lily

ivory  water cup

opens like a scroll

makes my heart sing

dry dusty petals

always winter

a ballerina once

no longer remembering

****

a swan song

the seasons changed her dance

robbed of her wings

girl at coffee

the lack of a smile in her eyes told me

she too young to hide that radiant glow

too much tarnish to buff away

butterflies and girls should fly free

you are worthy this you should know

Too often young people are made to feel they aren’t good enough.

What a shame when someone with so much potential is robbed before even given the chance to try.

What do you do to stay young?

Highlighting some writers who make a difference in my blogging world:

Linda has a heart for the nature around her (and she’s a great storyteller)  – Rangewriter

Charlie writes poetry that hits the marrow – Read Between the Minds

Mabel writes keenly about the mix of her Australian and Asian culture Mabel Kwong

Magyar lives somewhere between the sea and the world of haiku Magyar Haiku

Honore writes, shoots amazing photography and shares his travels – This Corner of the Woods

Ranu her pen is embraced in beauty –Sabethville

Frozen Spring #haiku #spring

Spring dreams

ballerina water dance

frozen in motion

ballet hydrangea

 En pointe

hydrangea surrounds the stage

ballerina’s spray

This poem for Poetry Pantry at Poet’s United was written in the heart of winter. The ballerina in these haiku awaits the opening of spring’s curtain.

I am so grateful to Poet’s United for the interview about the poetry book for the orphans of Ebola in Liberia and to Kristjaan at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. If you are unfamiliar with these two poetry communities, please check them out.

Submissions are open until June 1st.

The poems being submitted are a beautiful chorus that fit so well together.

Dance with the Windmill #haiku #poetry

windmill

wind teases paddles

dizzy is the windmill dance

child’s dress billows

Don Quixote

a windmill joust

giggle in the breeze

There is something fanciful about the windmill as it plays with the wind. The prompt at Carpe Diem is Windmills.

I Wanted to share that submissions are now open for the project for the children orphaned by Ebola. All poets and haiku poets welcome to share their voice!

Your Poem on the Wind #poetry #loss #photography

sandpipers
Finger traces words
pages escape in the wind
poetry never dies
*
I clasp the memories
near to my heart
those warm days
and you and I
chasing shore birds
we dance in the sea-foam
our laughter joins with the sea’s chorus
“come frolic with us in waves of eternity
just beyond the sun”
A tear muddies the poem
the one you wrote
of your love
tied in a bundle
with so many others
invisible fingerprints
caress the ribbon
that has untied your sentiments
too many times to count
brown and brittle are the pages now
a piece breaks off
and is caught by the breeze
I scorn its warm glow
it too wants a bit of you
finally I crumple your treasures
to brown papery dust
setting you free for the last and final time
a silent petition I raise:
“let me join you
to frolic in the waves of eternity
just beyond the sun”
sun and wave foam
This poem is inspired by Anna Akhmatova a woman who knew the glow and loss of love.
Today at Poet’s United Midweek Motif the theme is “A Woman’s World.” One thing women have long known is the value of love and the weight of loss and yet we endure.

Dusk’s Dance #poetry #haiku #sea #photography

this road–

no one goes down it

autumn’s end

~Basho

And here I meet him – Dusk

eyes linger

on the last flames

burning off cities in the distance

he offers his hand

“will you dance?”

“yes, but I must rise soon.”

for a few stolen moments

we dance as the day fades to away

sun-drop 1

last of day’s splendor

blue sky merges with sea

moon yawns

Kristjaan at Chevrefeuille’s Carpe Diem prompts us to write about Dusk. I used my poetic license to create a haibun for such an occasion.

First Light #poetry #photography #sundaydevotion

Beneath the first light

I raise my heart in supplication

lift me up Oh Lord

off my trembling knees

life’s burdens can keep me down

*

Beneath the first light

I raise my eyes to meet the sun

reflections of grace dance on the hillside

I am beckoned to dance

nature comes alive

*

Beneath the first light

I raise my voice to sing your glory

notes flutter on the breeze like butterflies

I am reminded I am free

not shackled to this world

Welcome Summer #poetry #photography #solstice

Blushing rose

How long you have hidden

averted your face

the cold winter presence

no longer a trace

you hoped for the sunshine

dreamed of the day

fling back the shutters

blow kisses and play

finger the dew drops

on velvety skin

beauty is open

a light from within

fear not the darkness

revel in today

warmth you are clothed in

fan dance in sun’s gaze

The prompt for Poet’s United Midweek Motif is in celebration of the Solstice on June 20 the contrast of Light and Dark.

What does light and dark symbolize to you?
