Needing Pink Shoes #poetry #photography

So great a task

connection between words and glass

not without her pink shoes

just the pink shoes

Lat week my subject was a little girl with pink shoes. In this week’s DP challenge, “Connected” makes a visual and symbolic connection. Who can do that without a little girl and Pink Shoes?

“It really is a beautiful day,” grandmother said as she snipped the remnants of summer.

“Why?” I whined, “When we are covering up beautiful warm summer and getting ready for cold harsh winter?”

“Hmm,” she grasped my cold fingers. “We need to do something about that.”

I watched her run into (well she walked) the house and in a few minutes she came out with something wrapped in my favorite color – purple.

“Go ahead, open it!”

I snatched at the curly ribbon and pulled. I was not prepared for what I saw. Fluttering out of the purple wrapped package were the most beautiful flying things I had ever seen. They weren’t butterflies, not really, but then again they weren’t lady bugs or dragon flies.

“They only come out when the air gets cold.” Grandmother suddenly looked much younger as she chased the tiny things around.

“What are they?”

“Why fairies of course.”

“Grandma we both know that fairies…”

“Shhhh don’t tell them that or they will be sad.”

“I guess that makes sense.” I giggled as one poked me in my secret tickle spot. “I’ll get you.” I chased the small creature around the garden. I shed my coat cuz it felt too much like spring.

‘What an amazing day that was,’ I thought as I looked  at my photo album and my grandmother’s cheerful face. “What were they really?” I whispered.

“Fairies…” I heard her voice clear as a bell.

The DP Challenge Life is too Short:

Fill in the blank: “Life is too short to _____.” Now, write a post telling us how you’ve come to that conclusion.

…Life is too short to not enjoy each day!!!

and Life is too short to not chase fairies…

Wolf / Human? You choose… #humor #poetry #dpchallenge

fuseli_nightmare

It was a cold and frothy night

blood dripped from my fangs

I shivered at the thought

I looked at myself in the reflection

“I’m a wolf why am I shivering?”

the inner me spoke

“you are human only when it suits me

and wolf when you are a beast”

I was reminded that as a human I’m vegan

I really can’t stand the sight of blood

and yet it tasted so good on my lips

“aack” I woke up with the dawn

“I hate those kind of dreams”

I thought as I padded to the sink

washing the stench of wolf from my nostrils

I failed to see the woman draped over my white sheets

WordPress has a delightful prompt for today at Daily Post – Howl at the Moon

“Follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness.” — Allen Ginsberg

Et Tu? Do you follow Ginsberg’s advice — in your writing and/or in your everyday life?

Thanks to Fuseli for inspiring so many with his painting The Nightmare which I believe is in the collection at the Tate.

At a Loss for Words #poetry #music #dpchallenge

guitar

A tune always spins

like an lp

on the record player of my life

notes trickle through fingers

like rains drops

as I sing another song

and the words

dance on the keyboard

and sparkle  in my eyes

as I dance with feet firmly planted

hands caressing the microphone

on the broad instrument packed stage

that I call home

The prompt at DP Daily Challenge today is Musical Marker.

“We all have songs that remind us of specific periods and events in our lives. Twenty years from now, which song will remind you of the summer of 2014?”

Our family lives in a world of theater and music, my life is catalogued by the memories of the venue rather than the song. We just finished “The Producers” so I guess the song would be –  Spring Time for Hitler.

The wordpress photo challenge this week: “Art” isn’t just paintings and sculptures, it can be anything in which we find beauty and meaning — even food. Show us a thing, place, or person that’s a work of art to you.

The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.”

Pablo Picasso
