It Never Rains… #California #HappyNewYear

“So this is Sunny So Cal. “

“Welcome – we’ve had better days. Right now you can’t see the sun. Pollution always prevents you from seeing it from several parts of LA but the beach is beautiful.”

” What’s that smell?”

“Hmm well we are very close to the ocean and presently there is beach scum a weird phenomenon probably caused by reversed global polarity.”

“Yeah we have noticed in the East that our weather is off but we never smell anything like that.”

” Let’s skip the trip to the coast today. There are other places that I thought you might take me . How about Disney?”

“Yes that’s always a good place to visit but they have posted the limits and the park is already full for the next week.”

” How is that possible?”

” People stay or they are waiting in line until their turn comes up. Ya know we could go north. There are some great wineries once we get out of the valley.”

” I heard many of the best wineries were burned by that last fire y’all had.”

” Oh you mean the So/ North fire? It started in a small forested area but now it connects the no and some of the state. That’s why the air looks brown.”

” I wondered what that burnt smell was. Kind of a combo of over burnt marshmellows and plaxtic mixed with…

“”Well there are many great restaurants in our area. You name it they have it.”

” American?”

“Oh yeah there’s a greasy spoon drive in that’s open.”

” No not really into grease but I do like Middle Eastern.”

” Hmm yes we had a wonderful place the dishes are wonderfully spicy. Someone burned it to the ground. What about seafood? “

“After smelling the seascum I think Ill pass It’s probably radioactive.”

” Well I have a loaf of bread and a can of tuna at my home.”

” Where’s that? “

“Out toward the dessert.”

” Isnt that flames?”

“Well yes yes. We have been evacuated Ive been living in my car. Hmmm How about the airport?”

” Good idea. I think I’ve seen all the best parts of LA. “

“Well please come back and bring some clean air and water with you…”

2020 was a crazy year. Hoping that there’s air to breathe and water to drink in 2021 and that Cali gets a break from …

Refreshed #search #truth

“Come to the water

stand by my side

I know you are thirsty

you wont be denied”

Words that we sang

we could drink deep

take refreshing sips

the well is always full

There are days I doubt

distracted by drought

 when I have been starving

  clothes threadbare

you have always provided

what I needed

even in my disbelief

you shared your pool of mercy

where I could bathe in hope

Do you ever face days where you can’t see past the trial or the trouble? Do the words “He will provide” seem trite? I cannot count for you how many times He has provided food for my family when the cupboards (and bank account) were bare. I am reminded of the prayer of my child for shoes and the next day I was given money that bought four pairs of shoes for my little ones. And the prayers of a preteen whose best friend has just lost her mom when we find out I also have cancer.

Sometimes life seems like Russian Roulette and The doctor says “you might live and you might die.”

In a van going to another country to get alternate treatment the woman next to me tells me her bleak story. “There are very few healthy cells left in my body. Maybe a month left now and so I made this trip as a last hope even if it can buy more time with my kids. They have no one except me. No one…” Her 18 year old son sits next to her. He is her designated caregiver because there is no one else.

Cancer takes on a new meaning for me as God pulls me out of my own dark reverie to pray without ceasing for this young mom.

I am assured not beaten down

I am certain that God has a plan not destruction

I am lifted up on eagles wings not on a paper airplane…

Weeks of treatment go by. The woman has had many up and downs. I sit with her one day during treatment and she starts going downhill. She hands me her PET scan. “The cancer is diminished. I may have more than a year now.” As she leaves the hospital she hands me her PET scan done that day. There are little bitty pieces of cancer. I am going home with more than a figthing chance and I know many prayers…”

If this God cares about shoes and a woman’s cells then does He also not care for your circumstances? What about the World’s?”

CoVid-19 is indeed scary so is having no money.

He knows your every need He hears your every prayer!!!

“You keep track of all my sorrows.
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book.”

~Psalm 56:8

Life bringing

children drink

cool refreshment

fills our cup

life changing

times of drought

thank God

each wet drop

life saving

one faithful pump

children fire brigade

fire stopped

While we were there – From this one pump more than 80 children were refreshed, a school fire was quenched, and there were still more drops.

So much demand had been placed on this single pump. On our last day they had to do a major overhaul or lose the water giving pump.

Here’s a poem about the fire the staff and children bravely fought.

Pictures speak 1000 words. These pictures are within miles of each other in California’s Central Valley.

You guessed it the beautiful water filled canal supplies water to the corporate farm.

The independent farms (family owned ) are left to go back to scrub brush.

Fracking is not helping the problem!

Changing Seasons #Bible #ourworld #war

a touch of cherry

Blessing comes in the form of peace

safe haven while war rages about

Blessing comes in refreshment

sparkling waters flow in time of drought

blessing comes in the form of life

leaves remain green though nothing lives

blessing comes in the form of provision

there is enough when resources are destitute

~MDW

Are you seeing the seasons changing? Life (presently) seems to be battered by storms of all types. You saved and planned for the future and most of that is now ashes crumbling between your fingers.

Look at the world from above. What was once blue and flowing is now a brown stench of an orb.

God promises life, peace, and an unadulterated stream even as everything is caving in. He will not turn against us during this time of warring and corruption. He promises safety and to replenish us.

Jeremiah 17: 7-8 says:

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.
He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Things of the Past #agriculture #dpchallenge #drought

oiled plows

turned the ground

anticipating harvest

 Once full of life

wheat fields clapped their hands

cattle gossiped in the stalls

tractors slowed traffic

we rose before the sun

greeting the day’s challenge

rusty hinges no longer squeak

children no longer milk cows

our food is imported

The prompt for the daily post photo challenge is Relic.

I used to look upon rusty, dilapidated farms as romantic. I anticipated the change of new metal barns and air-conditioned John Deere tractors. While I lived in the agricultural center of California, I never anticipated the return of the land to desert where nothing  grows and a lye/ salt makes it impossible to grow anything but sage brush.  There is an abundance of uncultivated sagebrush land. The United States has been reliant for up to 90 percent  produce (from California) including cotton, citrus, dairy, fruit, vegetables, nuts, grapes…). The land (even with water) cannot be cultivated in a season (or a year.)

Have you noticed where your produce is coming from???

I have no qualms about buying produce from other countries except for the lack of FDA regulation on amount and type of pesticides being utilized.
