The First Light #poetry #light

Beneath the first light

I raise my heart in supplication

lift me up Oh Lord

off my trembling knees

life’s burdens hold me down

*

Beneath the first light

my eyes to meet the sun

reflections on the hill

beckoned to dance

nature all around

*

Beneath the first light

I raise my voice to sing

notes like butterflies

I am reminded I am free

no shackles hold me down

“If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things… And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world , and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

John 3:12 & 19

Freedom #4thofJuly #proudamerican

stretching her wings

lifted high by summer currents

no turning back

You may be swaying over all the events in our nation and our world.

You should be.

Jesus in the Bible talked alot about the poor, the widows, the mistreated. We should in any season be offering help to another in need. That is not based on our abundance; it is based on the need to give and care in any season of our lives.

Matthew 25:36-37 says: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.”

Giving away freedom does not help anyone. If you want to know what it’s like to forfeit your freedom, move to a communist country. You will have no freedom to walk on a sidewalk in the evening with your significant other, give a piece of bread to a starving child. or sing a song (of your choosing.)

dog eared pages

leaf through journal

too many wounded whispers

tears spilt in heavenly petition

hearse turns the corner

 cut on cracked window

suffer not, leap of faith

no crying over turned milk

wounds will heal

I whistle for man’s best friend

fresh are the page’s delight

Autonomy is the one word prompt for WordPress today. What could be more autonomous than a country like America that has always encouraged free speech, freedom of ideas, freedom to create, freedom to rely on oneself?

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest- tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”

Horse #atozchallenge

Have you ever jumped on the bare back of a horse? You have to hang on with your legs as the two of you escape the world’s gravity and ride in the breeze of freedom. Sorrowfully you must  resign yourself to the dismount and returning to regular mundane terra.

Mercy’s Butterfly #poetry

monarch black and white

She confident, flits

over my dry and barren soul

brush against fingertips

of my sorrow do you know?

Neither can we speak

I stand in silent wonder

vibrant never weak

heart beats strong like thunder

Daring and alive

this race that she is in

touch hope, now I strive

She vibrant as the wind

our eyes for moments meet

her smile so pure and bright

her convection ever sweet

my burden now seems light

Mercy takes a  wing

lift another is her goal

joy her journey brings

detach each from life’s shoals

There are days when life seems too weighty. Those are the days when mercy is the greatest comfort. I hope this poem lifts your spirits (even for a moment.)

Thank you to Poet’s United for this week’s prompt – Mercy.

It’s your moment

you look over the edge

no words can express

the exhilarating dread

what if I fall?

it seems I could fail

look up at the sky

freedom’s wings will prevail

*

I’ve been taught all I need

will it be quite enough?

to hold the scepter of truth

the first leap it is rough

*

blind I enter life

through the desert I have crawled

the journey  is bumpy

beneath liberty I’ll stand tall

This week at Poet’s United our challenge is to write a poem about Freedom.

Every country, every person has a different vantage point; all I would think would agree that there is a precious price to attain and maintain Freedom.

Lost on the Train #Ukraine #poetry

Uneven are the clickity clack

as the wheels slide along rails

It’s hard not to echo silent  words

that I heard on that Crimean train

the subtle all but lost

except in the shudder of the cars

the steel sparking off the tracks

Clickity clack they gossip

“she was thrown from the train – here

they meant to kill her

but the people without faces knew

she was alive”

I caress the worn boards

wanting to hear and see

splinters had achieved their goal

men’s hearts pierced

women and children sent away

my eye captures what would have been a tear stain

had they not cut it out

tossed it after the woman

hoping all the time that society would forget

how to love life

and man would graze with the cattle

women would bray like the ass

children would not feel  freedom

of grass tickles their bare feet
