Not Ashamed #poetry #freedom #veterans

posterized sail

Sails billow as they unfurl

we prepare to release our mooring

waiting expectantly for the wind

to greet our faces

as we set sail

and why should we be ashamed?

Quickly and purposely

we unchock the wheels

remove the air intake blocks

pull the flags covering the pitot

engines start to cycle

and why should I be ashamed?

Her sails grab at the wind

the props cause everything loose to ruffle

We greet the day

knowing that those we love

are setting the dandelions free

our children should not be ashamed!!!

boys

I like most of the men and women who choose to serve their country (in the armed forces) do it so that children can run free in the dandelion fields rather than be used as a weapons.

First Light #poetry #photography #sundaydevotion

Beneath the first light

I raise my heart in supplication

lift me up Oh Lord

off my trembling knees

life’s burdens can keep me down

*

Beneath the first light

I raise my eyes to meet the sun

reflections of grace dance on the hillside

I am beckoned to dance

nature comes alive

*

Beneath the first light

I raise my voice to sing your glory

notes flutter on the breeze like butterflies

I am reminded I am free

not shackled to this world

Follow the Leader #pipeline #Ukraine #poetry

earth

Politicize

if you may

the value of children

who are out to play

call them back before it’s too late

life is cheap

at the pipeline grate

***

Ukraine it seems

is in a vise again

always in the middle

of stronger men

goose step then

tank track now

raise your arm

don’t take a vow

***

protect the children

of the world

solemn salute

the flag unfurled

we’ve lost the vision

the value of life

we love our money

“all hail the pipe”

***

Have you ever played “Follow the Leader”?

It is a game that I played often with the children I taught in Crimea.

Funny thing they like to play the same games as children all over our world.

Yet, they don’t seem to have the same right to enjoy the freedom to romp as Ukrainians.

The world’s politico is too busy playing their own form of “Follow the Leader” to care.

yellow rose

If One Word Could Change…

this bleeding world

it would open eyes to see

beyond the stars and past the scars

 garden of sublime beauty

what a difference a word  could make

in this world it might be free

what a difference the words would be

if we thought of “you and me”

***

an angry heart

set young girls as captives free

still the troubled and confused mind

like a swift but cooling stream

what a difference a word would make

what a filling soothing  dream

what a difference a word would make

how a child’s face would beam

***

a smoking gun

give a child a rose instead

balloon is freed with hope aloft

floating above the hate and dread

what a difference a word could make

like eagles we would soar

all the songs were sung by open hearts

no need for rich or poor

***

the plots of man

muddied policies made clear

shut the gates of indecision closed

unite people there and here

what a difference a word could make

spoken by a healing tongue

what a dreamy place this world could be

for the elder and their young

The DP Writing Challenge for the week is “To the Tune of…”  Have a little fun and try your hand at writing or rewriting song lyrics.

I wrote this poem thinking of it lyrically but I really dont have music to put it to. This is a song that I would have to compose. However the song Imagine by John Lennon is the background sentiment to these lyrics.

Memorial #memorialday #sacrifice #poetry

Your footsteps

trudging in the sand

made all the difference

your sacrifice

saved many a life

gave us freedom

we fly a flag

we sing your praise

cannons boom

 never will they repay

nor can my heart  say

ample thanks

salute your bravery

for in  one moment

your sacrificial deed

made all the difference

****

I salute brothers and sisters who served in the Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force.

Those who serve do so with a love for their country no matter the cost.

We did it for freedom for LIFE!

Cast Off #poetry #photography

Today I cast off my dreams

leaving them on yesterday’s wake

did I have the perfect form

or was I making a mistake

*

today I waded deep into sorrow

jigsaw puzzle pieces mismatched

wishing I could ignite the driftwood

you were reality’s dreadful catch

*

today I danced to a new beat

loosened my hair into the breeze

laughed away yesterday’s tight rope

casting-off from you an ease

Salute You #Veteransday #poetry #Navy

Do you remember?

Crisp uniform

tailored to you

swearing to serve your country

“I solemnly swear”

and you meant it!

Defend

Do you remember

When the seiousness of your vow

made sense?

 soldier, sailor, marine, airman

“I will serve my country…”

A clean innocent smile, once

I remember

The pride I felt

saluting my commanding officer

they toggled the switches on engine 1

they cranked up engine 2

number 3 blew our hats across the tarmack

the ship sweetly rumbled as number 4 came to life

Yes, every day could be my last

that is the risk we take

“… to serve my country”

Why?

I am a Veteran

and I believe

that the bell for freedom deserves to ring

that the next generation deserves safe borders

I salute each of you

Veterans – young and old

each of you placed yourself in harm’s way

to protect another

I am honored to have served

with you!

With Truth #poetry #latin #photography #poetsunited

Veritas

Have we lost your value

are  people still set free in you

or forgotten in ocean’s deep

idly lost in motion’s sleep

*

Can you retain your pride

is the cause rallied by your side

or are lies thick as thieves

and readily despised

*

Valiant raise your scepter

sally forth as victor

Veritas stand stately and tall

for if not you mourn society’s fall

A big thank you as well to Sherry at Poet’s United for her fine interview of me this week. Have a look.

Pick up a piece #911 #terrorism #tribute #memories

911 a solemn day. Survivors of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon deal with the guilt of leaving the dead behind.

I stand with a lapel pin in my hand

it had stood proudly on a life swept away

A bar of medals lay on the ground

how many heroic deeds did you do?

“mama mama mama”

I heard the echo of a grease covered doll

“I missed my flight “

I heard through misty eyes

“Our copier broke down  so I went to another cell”

“We should have been there with the dead” they chorused hand in hand

“What can we do for those who died in our place?”

the survivor’s guilt gnaws raw as each 911 looms

pick up a piece of 911 people

rally around the cause of freedom

look forward

do not let this happen to innocence again
