And I can… #poetry #art #love #uganda

you ask me what I do

so many hats sit in a corner

I point…

some are dusty

others can no longer be worn

I’m tired…

paper leaves scatter

rose petals crumble with age

misunderstood…

children I have loved

stories I have told

one heart…

no value a head shakes

pennies fall from my pocket

hope hangs …

trial and error

at times I want to give up

but one word…

inspires me to try

ignited and refreshed

by LOVE!!!

I dedicate this to my dear friends / family in No. Uganda. Your love is not based on aquisition of things, a degree, a profession. It is given freely. That is the kind of love that God has for each of us.

On the Side of the Road #kindness #sundaydevotions

“It’s as easy as…”

LIFE

“you fall off –

 get right back on”

bruised and bloodied

stumbling off the road

 scraping out the rocks

“Just get up” a person calls

I think I’ll just sit in the dirt

another person rolls her eyes

increasing her pace

“take the bike I won’t be needing it” I holler

I feel gentle arms around me

“let me clean that” a kind whisper

“we will get you home”

the man puts me on his bike

his wife rides my battered one

I’m awakened to fluffy white pillows

I don’t know how long it takes to heal

there it was painted and straight

“I think I’m ready to try “

I wave at the kind couple

their hands are full so they smile

there will always be battered people

to pick up on the side of the road

The original story of the Good Samaritan dealt with religious/ cultural bias and religiosity. The Good Samaritan(entire parable Luke 10:25-37) did not deal with the social issues  surrounding that man’s life. His concern was for the well being of the nameless man. How easy is it for us to have  all the answers to another person’s struggles? It’s easy to judge when we are upright. What about when we are on the ground battered/ in pain? Jesus extends grace and love to everyone no matter what pit they find themselves in.

I am grateful to people like the non-fictional couple who picked me up in a time of distress and loved me back to health. Why not have a heart that picks people up out of life’s ditches?

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion

blot out my transgressions.

                                                                                                               Psalm 51:1

So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?” And he said,

“He who showed mercy on him.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

                                                                                                            Luke 10:36&37

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God
of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble
with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
                                                                                                      2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Painted in a Corner #sundaydevotion #poetry

shore

always striving holding tight

no room for error failure in sight

squeezing out hope before day’s dawn

what was I thinking night lasts so long

welts of frustration fume like disease

more than downtrodden, driven to knees

no air is left a sullen choke

hot tears on my face rising in smoke

Lord please clear fog dims my path

align me with peace stem this tides’ wrath

give me somewhere solid to place one foot

and room for another for faith I will look

shake the dust away my eyes

set love like flowers its fragrance rise

I can walk not knowing where

Christ leads me onward my load he bears

*

Are there days when you feel you can’t go left or right, north or south? Neither our minds nor intuition can get us out of the corner we are painted into. Then truth filters the fog “Trust not in your ways but God’s.” I’m glad God knows the way out of life’s maze. He alone can release the choke hold that the world has on us. His love is a powerful remedy for the ailments of this life.

My son, let them not depart from your eyes—Keep sound wisdom and discretion;22 So they will be life to your soul
And grace to your neck.23 Then you will walk safely in your way, And your foot will not stumble.

~Proverbs 3:21-23

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

~1 Corinthians 13: 4-7

(KJV) Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

~John 15:13

Catch a Wave #devotion #photography

girls in the sea

I tried to count the grains of sand

I got lost there were too many in my hand

I tried to count the hairs on her sweet little head

I made braids with ribbons instead

I made friends with a duck today

as I said “goodbye”, he flew away

I tried to touch a monarch butterfly

she became a rainbow in the sky

children join the waves in dance

hoping to catch a mermaid by chance

There is so much in our world that delights and inspires. I am in awe of a God who knows how many grains of sand are in the ocean and how many hairs are on a little one’s head. It isn’t just knowledge of facts – He knows our inner being and cares for us in the high and low times.

Psalm 139:17-18
“How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them,
Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I am awake, I am still with you.”

1 John 3:1
“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”

Smiling Down at You

It’s a night like no other

lay back and reflect

so much past

nothing  to reject

***

What has gone before

I failed to record

I’m looking up

thinking of my Lord

***

The sand it squeaks

the waves recede

the stars they twinkle

beautiful indeed

***

My heart so full

about to burst

heaven’s smiling

and  singing  a  verse
