Through the Glass #photography #haiku #poetry

we crossed paths at dawn you and I

you in search of anything that might satisfy

 gnawing of winter’s constant hunger

*

the cold seemed little impediment

there was something in doe eyes

that determination could not disguise

*

I could not reach you through cold glass

I willed a full belly to break repast

my hands empty of all but understanding

*

you caught me in your eye

too close to blink away surprise

we crossed paths at dawn you and I

ice crystals

Through the glass

a world beyond frozen dreams

more than meets the eye

Today’s prompt at Poet’s United Midweek Motif is Glass .

“People are like stained – glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”

Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Winter Dreams in Color #haiku #holiday #poem

This week I love to challenge you all a bit more to write a short chained poem with a maximum of eight stanza following the classical rules (5-7-5; 7-7; 5-7-5; 7-7; 5-7-5; 7-7; 5-7-5; 7-7) and your last stanza (classically called “ageku”) has to close the chain by associating on the first stanza. Of course you don’t need to use the classical syllables count, but that’s up to you.
Not an easy task I think, but therefore I give you all 24 hours instead of 18 hours … So you have to write a chained poem (Renga) of maximum eight (8) stanza inspired on the image and the prompt WINTER WONDERLAND within 24 hours.

Camellia+2

My eyes open

crystals lace eyelashes

the world is white

I fold back winter’s blanket

I am warmed by the sight

*

Reaching in a dream

entranced by small set of prints

walking on sugar

ballerina takes my hand

I am dressed like a swan

*

Effortless we sail

glassy waters before us

I drop a feather

red beauty falls to earth

contrast against my white world

*

Light is the breeze

feather and red petal dance

nature’s pas de deux

my eyes flutter closed

echos long a wonderland song

Edge of Cold #haiku #photography #poem #storms

At Carpe Diem we were just introduced to Otagaki Rengetsu (1791-1895) A female poet who knew well the pains and suffering of the sojourner.

Upon
frost-withered arrowroot
pelting
vying hailstones—
the cold within the sound.

~ Otagaki Rengetsu

Ice cold memories #flashfiction #poetry

copyright-erin-leary

This grey dismal scene

flickered thoughts

embossed  my mind

long forgotten memories

path of my past

icicles dripped dark lies

“failure, fool, worthless”

mud sucked boots

clothes would never dry

and the sky, the sky

spoke the words

“there is no sun

it’s been removed”

only darkness looms

etching finality on your tomb”

no places to dream

those were taken away too

go ahead and scream, and scream

no one will hear you

here I stood

holding my hand

the one that couldn’t remember

tried so hard to forget

 we stood together

at the past’s path again

Frozen Fall #poetry #photography

frozen leaf

I am a captive

encapsulated between yesterday and today

frozen

I hang suspended

feeling

nothing

*

the skeleton of winter

wraps its fingers about me

taunting

 threatening my existence

and so I watch you go by

bundled up in a flurry of color

whimsical

you will wave in the New Year

while I wait for spring to catch what remains

Hearts on Ice #atoz #atozchallenge #flashfiction

On the dark side of this steely grey luminous orb

I was cold unfeeling

having driven a blade into your back

it was your heart that I pierced

mine was already on ice – shattered

but still

to be the recipient of death is one thing

to deal death such a cold emptying deed

slowly the orb turns

blue cold with light emitting from the edges

what no one could know

your blood once spilt warmed my dormant heart

the orb once dark emitted beauty to far reaching galaxies

succesfully melting centuries old ice caps

the beautiful work of one warm heart
