Three Words (I Loved you)

It hurt to hear

those

words

“I loved you”

there was

finality

a last rotation

to the

past

I want to hear

I love you

a hope

that

feelings

would

somehow

last

**

How can

three

simple

words

cause trouble

evoke

such pain

But then

those

three

can also

spin one

high

in love

again

Unless you were loved

I wondered how

you could say you loved

then play others now

but that’s not it

there’s a deep hurt

from years gone by

you were being rejected

you didn’t know why

you felt hurt from one

who gave you your name

all she could give she never gave

to you  rejection and shame

go to where she felt

hurt from a man

who cared not -only dealt

empty promises it was a sham

look back if you can

and try to regain

the love that she lost

for the love of a man

don’t go full circle

again with your life

her love for you was there

beneath  shame and strife

stand up and become

the man you wouldn’t be

unless you were loved

by someone today
