Food for Thought #poetry

We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.

Life is a promise; fulfill it. – Mother Teresa
Generosity begins with our recognition of our debt to others.

A person’s true wealth is the good he or she does in the world. Mohammed

Gratitude is the memory of the heart.

When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.
.
Believe, when you are most unhappy, that there is something for you to do in the world. So long as you can sweeten another’s pain, life is not in vain. – Helen Keller

Seek to do good, and you will find that happiness will run after you.

Kindness is like sugar, It makes life taste a little sweeter.

God made the world round so we would never be able to see too far down the road.

At first we hope too much, later on, not enough.

The time is always right to do what is right. – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Life is a food bowl jumble how do we begin?

kindness and hope might be a good start

like a fragrant flower, a ripe white peach

blessings flow from each

next a piece of belief and gratitude

fits so nice side by side

in the compote dish

sweetness daily we remind

I waver between what comes from the heart

I’ll pour a bowl of goodness

sprinkled with unpretentious love

in the lives of others do not be remiss

look down the road

but never too far

a hand full of willing

children, reach close to the stars

work each days tapestry

as if its your last

give deep down to the needy

never be greedy

there’s much food for thought

today I’ve tasted a little

pass a morsel to another

never be hard like peanut brittle

Today’s prompt at Poet’s United is Food. I am trying to get back on track getting away from the thought of food (the holidays are a bad influence). “Food for thought” seemed like the kind of basket I could reach into and be well nourished.

All the quotes above are from people or proverbs that have been passed down and were shared on the blog: Every Circle .

Once… #martinlutherking #poetry

city graffiti

…There were men who dreamed

and spoke of life

like it mattered

color was something you mixed

and children held hands

innocence gathered

…There were steps and leaps

made on the moon

heroes wore khaki uniforms

still made on a loom

and children held hands

while the wind blew

…A flag fluttered in the breeze

no matter the colors

a people saluted

and were proud and believed

and children held hands

knowing the truth

Once there was a vision

equal wasn’t a math sign

people one – red white and blue

who lived for right and wrong

and children held hands

and with crayons they drew

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
Martin Luther King Jr., A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches

One man cannot change a people but his dreams can ignite a beginning!

A Wish #birthday #poetry

happy birthday radiance

candles light upon a cake

symbolizing all your years

and with one single blow

a wish for mankind you will make

one – your first in life you’ve just begun

two- you stumble forward tripping too

three – you reach and climb up trees

four – you read and want for more

five – so grown up and alive

ten- adventure stories spin

twenty – master of your destiny

seventy – Sudoku if you can only remember where you put the tea

Today at Poet’s United the prompt is Birthday in honor of Martin Luther King’s Birthday.

a dream

In the beginning

a world created

“it was good”

*

slander, hate, murder

light of perfection turned off

dark haze

*

silent words believed

held close to the heart

centuries old

*

written in stone

read in eyes young and old

carried by a wave

*

hands of time

seasons move along

many share a dream

*

Dr. King was a visionary who saw the world the way God had created it. Men were brothers with each other; there was no enmity. King had a dream to see wrongs righted. We celebrate this great man whose vision was given by God.

blowing a kiss

“You obstruct my way to happiness”

you told me at eight

“so you little one

I chose to hate”

*

a gentle laugh

blue tender eyes

you couldn’t embrace

you had to despise

*

she sadly saw

a visage so dark

jealousy ran deep

imprisoned your heart

**

she hoped for one day

this evil would flee

one night your demon

listened not to her plea

**

how she lived through that night

he will never know

but she called upon God

death’s grip to let her go

**

she could have become bitter

fears played within her mind

but forgiveness set her free

kept her heart from being blind

**

yes those painful nights remembered

will always  cause her pain

she prays someday he’s ridden

of the beast that was insane

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”  ~Gandhi

“Forgiveness is not an occasional act, it is a constant attitude” ~ Martin Luther King Jr.

This prose is a true story of a girl who should have died one night (alongside her beautiful mother) at the hands of a man who had lost her senses.  She has worked with children (all over the world)  who have experienced painful hate and she encourages  them to  forgive…

I really appreciate what Kozo is doing at  Everyday Gurus. Kozo is encouraging bloggers to Blog for Peace (b4peace)  and write a monthly Peace Challenge Blog. This month the peace challenge prompt is “Marching Towards Forgiveness” an act that takes strength of will to perform at any age.
