Joy in Tears #Uganda #butterfly #children #goodbye

I waved goodbye to my little Bethany who has been my friend over many years and many countries. We tell stories about Jesus together. Today she chose to leave with a friend. Her name is Stella and she is nine years old. Stella and Bethany my la fofo will love village children together.

It’s hard not to shed a tear when my friend and I have shared so much. I am proud of Bethany that she willingly flew into Stella’s satchel for the trip to the village.

Goodbye Bethany. I love you!!!!

And to our dear Acoli family we say goodbye for now. Goodbyes hurt but we are joyful to love you!!!

Fun #children #atozchallenge

a ruler mark was a better way

children should not have fun

or play

serious the subject

in every day

we must light- hearted

laugh today

follow the leader

the silly way

you don’t want to know

that I taught a game

I have the upmost respect for teachers with all sorts of degrees. The job is an important one. A retired elementary teacher, I  respect and adore, states emphatically that her most important subject was love and kindness; something she taught by example to her appreciative students. I’ll add fun to that list.  We have fun in our classes – lot’s of it!!!

Sending love to my friends in Pawell and Lacor. You are the best teachers in the world and have taught me to have the best kind of fun.

A Gift to U #uganda #christmas

The gift I send is love

you cant pack it in a box

or wrap it up and send it on a plane with a friend

1000 beads cant take its place

red, green and silver ribbon can’t outshine its beauty

it can’t be sealed in ziploc bags with a kiss

village children won’t make it in class

it can’t be hung on a tree

this kind of love was born in a manager

gave up all priviledge

scratchy hay against a baby’s skin

no kingly courts celebrated His arrival

He was despised, rejected

few heard the songs sung for Him

centuries cant outdistance the meaning

sacrifice became love

love became a free gift

it is what I send to my friends in Uganda this Christmas

and to you!

In October I started putting together a package of christmas gifts and crafts for 100 children. Love was placed in ziploc bags. A package went in luggage with a friend who went to Uganda in November. There was plenty of time for the children to receive their Christmas goodies. “The airlines regrets to tell you that your luggage was lost in transit.” I hope somewhere children are able to enjoy the crafts and gifts that were inside that lost luggage.  The best gift is the love I can send to my Pawell, Lacor and Gulu family – each of you is precious and loved beyond measure by the King.

motorcycles, trucks, and cars

Pedestrians is the WordPress photo prompt for the week.

I have learned to share a lane with multiple vehicles and other people in Northern Uganda.

The layers of Uganda – A woman is sorrowful at the loss of her newborn child but she does not cry, fierce storms give little notice, and the horizon seems endless.

Ant Hill #Uganda #poetry

ants raise their heads confused

how did that ant get so big?

Refuge – A Safe Place

One day where a pair of feet stand

many feet will be running

where there a few huts there will be many

the spade of hope has pierced this ground

the seed of the future has been planted

songs will be sung, children will be safe

all because of the faith of a few men

I wish I could paint a picture of what this Acholi land will look like one day. I heard the plan and I believe many children’s lives will never be the same because a few men (who understand what is like to be refugees) prayed.

According to PRI more than 2000 South Sudanese are fleeing to Uganda daily. Uganda is one of three countries taking in a massive number of refugees.

Hut #Acholi #Uganda #atozchallenge

Big enough for two

ants compete with the size

kitchen outside

Sand castles

spring cleaning adds more rooms

fit for a king

I am off the grid for the next couple of days but will check back to see how y’all are doing. We didn’t dare to measure the ant hills but some appear to be as tall as a human and are elaborate as castles.

2017 A to Z Challenge – A Piece of Uganda

The April  2017 A to Z Challenge begins in a few days on April 1st. All bloggers are welcome to share words, photography, you.

We just returned from Uganda so I am inspired to share about this place and these people who were so welcoming and loving (so much so that we are hoping to return soon!)

Our journey took us to the northern part of Uganda the main city being Gulu. This part of Uganda has suffered greatly under the hand of The Lord’s Resistance Army.

The Acholi one of the displaced tribes are slowly moving back to ancestral land but many of the young people are staying in the cities. One man, James, told some memories as a young child of losing his home and having to hide. He is one of the stalwart who has returned to the land he loves. He is dreaming of planting a church and building a school for the people who have returned.

Under 2 sprawling trees, hope has been rekindled for a piece of Northern Uganda.
