A Normal Haitian Day ( a poem)

It was  any  Haitian day

sunny and  bright

a light breeze

perfect for flying a kite

The trees they swayed

their normal stance

but something was different

this wasn’t by chance

the movement wasn’t

that of a windy day

the weather was calm

something else was in play

the ground  moved next

The house started to  shake

what was occurring?

it was …

An EARTHQUAKE!!!

In less than a second

She lost her sense

She ran like a crazy person

It was so intense

she  looks out

at nothing that’s left

her house

her town

lives that are spent

She’s alive

she knows

she  should be glad

but this devastation

took all that she had

We should all be humbled by what happened this week in Haiti. Sorrowful for the loss and cognizant that this could be us. Our prayers and relief are the least we can do

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before. - Edgar Allan Poe
