At a Loss for Words #poetry #music #dpchallenge

guitar

A tune always spins

like an lp

on the record player of my life

notes trickle through fingers

like rains drops

as I sing another song

and the words

dance on the keyboard

and sparkle  in my eyes

as I dance with feet firmly planted

hands caressing the microphone

on the broad instrument packed stage

that I call home

The prompt at DP Daily Challenge today is Musical Marker.

“We all have songs that remind us of specific periods and events in our lives. Twenty years from now, which song will remind you of the summer of 2014?”

Our family lives in a world of theater and music, my life is catalogued by the memories of the venue rather than the song. We just finished “The Producers” so I guess the song would be –  Spring Time for Hitler.

The Bloodied Thorn #flashfiction #shakespeare #amwriting

I stand on the stage where I had given my life’s blood

I love the stage

the  drama that swirls center stage, in the wings and in the musty corners

my final role was Desdemona

That last night was my finest performance

“That death’s unnatural that kills for loving…”

If memory serves me well, Othello had been out of character that closing night

No ministrations could  calm

When they removed Desdemona’s body, they were unable to revive me

“She severed her own bloom,” he calmly stated

Tonight “my love” I meet you upon life’s stage

I pass on  bloodied thorn …

The photo prompt is shared by Sandra Crook (L’Amphitheatre des Trois Gauls, Lyon, France.) and opens the curtains for another week of Friday Fictioneers directed by Rochelle Wisoff Fields

Just for point of reference in the drama: “When they removed Desdemona’s body they were unable to revive me”  “me” refers to the actress playing the part of Desdemona. Thus Desdemona and the actress died tragically that night at the hand of Othello.

Le_Baiser_de_lHotel_de_Ville – Doisneau

It should have said

a thousand things

that words would never say

“stay with me”

“laugh the day”

“hold me in your sway”

It could have said

“mmm this is nice”

” could we start again- let’s make that thrice”

“don’t mind the rain”

“Let’s take it slow”

“Darling please don’t let me go”

Instead I felt

you can’t deny

tho it was never said, implied

” A camera points-

Let’s pose for this”

“this  shot could be a famous kiss”

I’m inspired by the famous French photographer Robert Doisneau.

The Final Call #poem

Look at the stage

for the final bow

as the cast says adieu

to the last show

***

Look into the sky

as the last of the sparks

on the forth of July

fall to the ground

***

Look in the lake

smooth as glass

as the ripple

circles its last

***

Look in the eyes

of a lover

the tear that falls

on the final goodbye

Moon Dance

She glows so bright

shining in full regalia

water reflects

her fluid movement

diamond like

in the blue darkness

***

She loves to show

herself in her finery

Lacy clouds wrap

themselves around her

like a silken cloak

***

During her dance

the finery

is cast aside

her beauty

needs no embellishment

***

she takes center stage

clouds don’t mind

gladly they share

with the darling

of the night

…a merciless and glorious place (story in 160)

I’m afraid.

It’s dark out there.

But – I know I must go.

Alone.

Entering a world of scrutiny.

What if they don’t like me?

What if I fail?

The stage is waiting.

My daughter just finished a summer musical with a local drama troupe. I’m  amazed at all the dynamics that go into a production.  The feeling when the lights are on you and a full house is waiting… The momentary thought “What if my vocal cords gave out?” The stage is a merciless and glorious place.
