Lonely But Not Alone #haiku #reflection

A Way in the Storm 2012 Moondust Designs

broken by cold
world's storm tears fragile promise
fragrant offering called hope

Are you finding yourself alone in this mixed up world of CoVid 19? Worries swirl about your head for yourself, family, the world.

“This is my comfort in my affliction, For your word has given me life.”

~Psalm 119:50

Hang on to the two words Comfort and Affliction that form a parenthesis around the word and very presence of affliction. Trials and afflictions (doubts and pains) may not be nullified, but they are cushioned by the faithful Word of God.

Please take heart today. He is always there.
Inspired by a fellow blogger’s post: a prayer and a flower.

The Coming Storm #poetry #storm #dorian

The clock it is a ticking

which way am I to run

storm front at my doorstep

where did it come from

Fear can be my master

give way to its despair

I tremble in the closet

devastation is so near

cling to strength and promise

your shield will be there

the storm may be coming

it will not linger here

The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him

Nahum 1:7

Our prayers are with the dear people of the Bahamas and to those still in Dorian’s path.

Driving Force #photography #haiku

time and storms erode

watercress flows in peace

my footsteps gone

The Daily Post Photography Challenge this week is Forces of Nature. I heard on the news that the place where I took the beach photograph was destroyed (4 days later) when a storm took out the dunes.

Reverse Thunder #devotion

storms end

I hear thunder in the distance

rolling onward like the waves

gaining power it surges  forward

and like a child I am afraid

flash and pounding ever stronger

seconds now and it will hit

dark the clouds and growing closer

blowing fragile tree to bits

it has stopped and hovers o’er me

a distinct voice of one I love

in the whispers it is calming

begging help from God above

*

Reverse Thunder

whispered prayers become a shout

God listens

I read an inspiring devotion about ‘Reverse Thunder’ and the power that prayer has. With our world in such tumult, we can turn our prayers into a reverse thunder – an energy that can be focussed in   fervent loving appeal.

In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.

Psalms 18:6

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

Colossians 4:2

“From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. ”

Psalms 61:2

Lost Treasure #poetry #photography

monterey

where did you leave your treasure

I asked of stormy sky

the tide is quick receding

it will retreat and hide

where did you hide the treasure

beneath a shell or brook

I cannot deep go wading

or wet will be my book

where did you leave my treasure

I look into moon’s eye

 a blushing smile revealing

and wearing a disguise

where did you leave your treasure

I hasten now to look

before the sea comes surging

I’ll drown while being o’ertook

blue striations

Where did you leave your treasure???

Day’s End #photography #poetry

rain and thunder

Rain drops collide with mid afternoon heat

thunder’s timpani roll  in loud rumbles

the conductor excitedly increases the tempo

light flashes as the cymbals strike

leaves clap their hands

trees bow in deference

the moon’s light brightens the sky

nature hushes waiting for a silvery banquet

fire flies approach the dance floor

spinning their partners in charged ecstasy

summer beads off my brow as I watch day’s end

leaf drop

Caught in the Storm #haiku #photography #poem

rainy day walkend of the day’s walk

thunder warns of storm’s promise

no short-cut

***

The prompt for Chevrefeuillle’s Carpe Diem is Short- Cut inspired by this haiku by Buson:

chikamichi ya mizu fumi wataru satsukiame

on the shortcut path,

stepping through water to cross the meadow
in the summer rains.

I wrote another poetic offering for the thunder and lightening show today.

Siren’s Sonnet #atozchallenge #poetry

letter s

The Siren’s Sonnet

Siren’s captives cast upon the wind

lovers never to dry their eyes

too young, they never realize

stormy reefs eager do they send

ballast relegate to ocean’s end

hearts we miss that never lie

commend them we to deepest night

eternal tears cannot offend

*

sing ye not this misery’s song

maidens pass through watery grave

you ‘ve called the sailors far too long

penetant we ask ye for to save

pass these men who’ve done no wrong

appease this storm and calm the waves

The Sonnet: A 14-line poem with a variable rhyme scheme originating in Italy and brought to England in the 16th century. Literally a “little song,” the sonnet traditionally reflects upon a single sentiment, with a clarification or “turn” of thought in its concluding lines.

The Petrarchan sonnet, perfected by the Italian poet Petrarch, divides the 14 lines into two sections: an eight-line stanza (octave) rhyming ABBAABBA, and a six-line stanza (sestet) rhyming CDCDCD or CDEEDE.

There are many other forms of the sonnet I have chosen the Petrarchan form for today.

(Thanks again to Poetryfoundation.org for the Sonnet facts)

Poetry is a series of explanations of life, fading off into
               horizons too swift for explanations.

Poetry is an echo asking a shadow to dance.

For Ineza #crimea #poetry #ukraine

storms end

Ineza you are now 14

somewhere between child and woman

we wished for you better things

brilliant you were so young

so close to being lost in life’s storm

the answers were so hard at six

he in prison

she buried with her Vodka

you grasped at the life-giving prism

so close to being lost in life’s storm

your home some country’s loot

once beautiful green and blue

trampled under boot

did they ever think of you?

so close to being lost in life’s storm

reach out your hand

before it’s too late

pull her toward safety

do not bring disaster as her fate

she is too close to being lost in life’s storm

Today’s prompt at Poet’s United is foresight / prescience aka a glimpse into the future. Ineza was a student of mine in Crimea. If I could have brought her to my country, I would have for she had already endured too much. I have no desire to look into her future for it too closely is united to Crimea;s fate.
