Patriotic in 55

And the rocket’s red glare…

In a wide-eyed gaze he stared

heard the sounds of cannon and musket

was awakened by bombs dropping and obliterating paradise

swatted at bugs and tried to ignore the moist stench

trudged forward into a world resembling a mirage

he shook himself back to reality and welcomed his freedom

Happy Forth of July to my fellow countrymen

Thanks G-Man for always hosting a great Flash 55

  1. You know the funny thing about reading other peoples works? In my case it makes me feel like my poetry can’t compare. This one is really good too. I wish I could create reads like this.

  5. Happy July 4th indeed, but there is also another independence day, one which not many know about. On the 5th of July it is Tynwald Day. The oldest parliament and longest running in the world, (over a 1ooo years) exists in the Isle of Man. Every July 5th the laws are read out and the independence of this beautiful little Isle are read out.
