Not So Silent Night (#Oneshotwednesday)

“Save me” said in anguish

“oppression make it cease”

words chanted in the night

alas no days of peace

*

A world mired in deluge

fists full of abhorrent pain

A light sent into the world

groping for the common man

***

A love light was unfurled

delivered through  his hands

a desperate call into the skies

to breach the sorrows of man

*

the least tallied as a friend

a child was extolled

he came on that barren night

to save the weeping soul

  1. Moondustwriter, I am enthralled by this “noisy” Christmas offering of yours. How true, how exactly as it is. You write everything so well, lucid. I wonder often how do you speak? Maybe the same as you write? I do.

    I like!

  2. Sorry, had to return. About that really-istic hand, maybe reaching out in a “save me” gesture?

My immediate perceptive was maybe another hand, not quite so beautiful, pushing back the “Light-of-the-World”…so as to promote the malignancies herein. (Apologize for the double-dip.)

  3. Agreeing on the songlike quality. As always you have the single vision here, seeing the light. I think you did a great job with the structure–short phrases, a bit of juxtaposition. All very musical and effective.

  4. Ooh – we were on the same wavelength – although I might like yours better as a Christmas poem than mine turned out to be. But hands are important in both of them!

  8. Oddly, I was reminded of Ebenezer Scrooge, and his journey to enlightenment. That’s why I love poems so much – each word and phrasing can mean so many different things to each individual who reads them. I enjoyed this; thank you! Hope you have a Safe, Fun Christmas, and a wonderful New Year! Cheers, David

      1. Beautifully written. I love how this poem bignrs us together. Allies. We are not alone, we can be accepted, embraced and feel safe at times. Better now, than how it was, for me too. It’s a journey much better travelled with allies.

    1. When QuotesChimp purchase insurance, you are in essence making a trade. On one hand, you accept a fixed loss, which is the money you pay to the insurance company. It is fixed because you know how much you are going to pay before you write the check. These payments are called premiums.

  10. Hey really – your a singer set some of you’re poetry to music? Me too… the ballads mend themselves best I find. Appropriately seasonal piece. Solid quatrains with rhyme that feels natural and unforced

Have a great Christmas/Solstice my friend

there is a sense of gentle presence in these last two lines…amidst the nights that are not silent and the pain of the world…he still comes…

    1. An impressive share, I just given this onto a coaulegle who was doing a little analysis on this. And he in fact bought me breakfast because I found it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love reading more on this topic. If possible, as you become expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more details? It is highly helpful for me. Big thumb up for this blog post! November 1, 2012

  13. Love the title of this…it so perfectly sets the tone and the message of the One who gave a voice to the voiceless…and the word choice continues this tone, reminding us of the suffering that must be remembered amidst the joy.

My favorite is “the least tallied as a friend”

Merry Christmas and God bless 🙂

  14. I LOVE the finishing lines, which tied this together in a beautiful sense. It does cast this sense of “spirit” to it..struggle and then this “save” at the end. Fantastic! 🙂 April 🙂

  15. You did wonderfully! I like it. I like the your development; it draws me (the reader) into your theme in a way that I can empathize with these folk. First you told of the ails of the world, then of the hope, and finally the salvation.

    Merry Christmas! 🙂

  18. ‘the least tallied as a friend’ – this line, though not the most poetic in this poem full of very musical lines, held the essence of the piece for me – beautifully put.

  20. Great one for meditation, Leslie! I love how you conjure the world miseries getting smoothered by the “love light” and the “hands”, those of an infant, who was born to “deliver” us. The last stanza from your pen, your soul, says it for us especially the last two lines–“he came on that barren night/to save the weeping soul”. And it’s been 2,010 years!
