Fire #atozchallenge #child’splay #Uganda

Fire is not a good thing where I live. We don’t have firetrucks or firemen. I remember one fire that was set on purpose. I was a small child in K level. We had real desks, our own books, and pencils to write with.

While we were having our tea, our teacher noticed smoke coming from the schoolroom. He ran back waving his arms “Fire – quick bring water.”

The children pumped water and took it to the building while the youth and the teachers went inside trying to save school supplies and desks. We didn’t have much time to think. Some adults walking on the road stopped to watch. They didn’t offer to help. That day, my school burned to the ground because someone was jealous that we had a school to learn in.

Disguise #AtoZchallenge #child’splay #Uganda

Today in our village school, we learned about different animals. Some of the animals in Uganda are hippos, gazelles, oribi, crocodiles, and giraffes. and elephants. Zebra used to live here but they died from a disease.

I also learned that a habitat is the place an animal lives. A habitat can be a river, a tree or for lions it’s in the savannah. I made a lion mask because I like the way they talk with a loud “Roar”. No one knew who I was because of my disguise – I wonder if my mama will recognize me when I go home?

If you could make an animal mask what would you be? I like the Zebra!

I have a love for children around the world and I am blessed to play and teach many of them. These anecdotes are fictionalized but true. You will capture what a day is like for a village child along with the challenges for many children. Thanks for visiting moondustwriter – Enjoy

See Me? #poetry #uganda #children

I lost my place

my finger couldnt hold

the place in the book

the story that it told

can’t count the days

my fingers arent enough

I play in the dirt

instead of learning stuff

teach me anything

I listen from my heart

I love when you read

we all enjoy the art

dont leave me in the dirt

my clothes begin to stink

challenge my mind

teach me how to think

So many children have been held back from education. In Uganda school is such a privilege. Education helps men and women achieve their dreams.

Never Stop Learning #poetry #aviation

Edgars desk

Today- I watched a bee

as it circled ’bout a rose

examining too close

I inhaled with my nose

Today- I watched a deer

she hid amongst the trees

clever nature seems

camera only caught the leaves

Today- I heard a child

questioning things that flew

inspired eyes so blue

I grasp knowledge anew

(and upside down at times)

plane in clouds

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.

The prompt this week at Poet’s United is Teachers

Profound #learning #poetry

I found a word

hanging around

it was flat,  unimpressive

laying on the ground

***

I wanted to ask

“hey you over there”

but I could tell it was awkward

I tried not to stare

***

What was I thinking

it’s only a word

to think it has feeling

isn’t that absurd?

***

But as I leaned over

to give it a nudge

it came to its senses

wasn’t about to budge

***

“You must understand”

it said clearly to me

“I’m packed full of meaning

have a try you’ll see”

***

We had conversation

time just flew

wouldn’t you know

I learned a thing or two

***

So next time you come

upon a word unaware

look for its meaning

take time and share
